Tractor vet is right. Check the pto first, if it doesn't work, it is either the splines in the pressure plate or the pto input shaft, or both. If it does, the problem is in the mcv or mcv pump. Our 856 was acting like that and I installed new gaskets and seals in the mcv(multiple control valve) and replaced the pump. The pump operates the TA, the power steering, and the power brakes. It works great now. We could get around the problem temporarily by removing a plug on the mcv with a 5/8 wrench and briefly running the tractor until oil came out. Then we'd put the plug back in. I guess the pump was loosing it's prime after it sat overnight. This was ok for a while, but it was a big waste of oil. I hope this is some help. Good luck.
