The seat with the tool box was still used in 1944 . It had no shock absorber. My dad had a 44 M and he replaced the seat with one with a shock. (A common practice in that era)I want to say its a monroe but not sure. If the seat with the shock is more bouncy than the straight spring your shock is wore out.Also the springs on the newer seats have different ratings the more groves in the larger face of the spring the stronger the spring.
