If there's a battery in it, check the top of the battery. If it's got 3 filler caps it's a 6 volt. If it's got 6 caps, 2 oblong caps or is sealed (flat top - no caps) it's 12 volts. Also look carefully at the voltage regulator - unless it's the original it's probably marked either 6 or 12 volts. Be aware however regulator markings often to wear off over time...
