I don't know much about a cub oil filter but I would guess it is similar to my super A. I just purchased it about a month ago and had a similar situation changing the oil myself. Posted a note here and the concensus of opinion was that I hadn't cleaned the grove where the canister gasket goes well enough. I'm not sure this was the only problem but it was definitely one of them. I also think I left too much oil on the base when I put the new filter on. Next time I change the oil I am going to try a filter from Case ( I bought a cheap one) and hope the gasket is just a little bit thicker. I also think getting it on straight the first time is an aquired taste. Hope this helps and good luck next time. Stan
