I've just been through this with my C. You should get at least 13.5 volts or more at the alternator terminal. If you get 12 to 12.5, you are not charging. I thought my alternator was bad, but the problem is it was not turning fast enough. I took it to the local alternator shop and watched them test it after they said it was ok. The alternator has to be reved up pretty high to start charging. after that it will charge at a lower rpm. When I saw that and asked the rpm, it became obvious that it was not turning fast enough. They put on a smaller pulley and even with that, at full throttle, I had to pull the governor arm to the carb back to race the engine to get it going. It charges fine now.
