Some thoughts (SA Clutch Repair)

I've been told by a couple of respectible people that the old style graphite bearing is not suppose to turn in the retainer. My question is, what keeps the fingers from wearing out so quickly when the bearing comes in contact with them? My TO bearing has a good sized groove wore in it because of the fingers spinning around it. The fingers are on their way to being sawed in 2. :-)  The pilot bushing appeared to be in good shape. But I replaced it anyway. Just wondering if the work I'm doing will benefit? I just want the tractor to go into gear without waiting 10 seconds for the input shaft to spin down enough for non-grinding mode. My thoughts were the TO bearing was bad and causing the grinding and the motor to be under a bit of a load when bearing engaged the fingers. 30 seconds of clutch pedal depressed, and the TO bearing started smoking. Is this normal? Will the new throw-out bearing and retainer be better (ball bearing type)? I noticed the clutch fingers are narrower on the new pressure plate compared to the old one. Could it be that the whole problem was the rear crank seal leaking causing the clutch problems? Please shed some light. Thanks, Tyman
