Check the tires. Do they have dry rot cracks or not. If you have to replace rear tires, they are around $300 each. Check the rims. Do they have rust holes. If you have to replace a rear rim it is $150 to 200 for a new one. Smaller rust out can be repaired. Check the steering. Does it have a lot of play or is it tight. Check the clutch under some load to make sure it is not slipping. You can put in 5th gear, hold the brakes and see if the clutch holds to pull the engine down. This will also check the brakes to see that they hold. Drive it around some in all gears to see if it jumps out of any gears. Good luck!
