If you've already got an overrunning clutch adapter that will fit, I'd go ahead and use it with your 300U. As the others have indicated, stopping the PTO-driven cutter presents a good opportunity to wear out the PTO brake band in a hurry since the cutter has a lot of inertia which the brake band has to absorb. I try to cheat with my 300U - when I'm shutting off the mower, I decrease the engine speed to slow idle before moving the PTO lever, which lets the engine absorb most of the mower inertia. If you have an overrunning clutch (working), the mower's inertia will be absorbed slowly via its own friction, and concern about wearing out the PTO brake bands will be at a minimum. Generally I also engage the PTO with the engine at slow idle, and then increase the engine speed to minimize wear on the PTO drive band. This is something you might want to consider, since an overrunning clutch doesn't help minimize wear when engaging the PTO.
