Irv, the farmalls came with the capacity to burn other distillates and as Wisconsin Ron has said ,you used the small tank for gasoline to start the tractor and warm it up. The H originally had a heat shield that fit over the manifold and it had shutters on the rad. You needed to set the manifold baffle to the top and close your shutters untill you had it operating in the "hot" range on your guage. And don't let anyone tell you Farmalls didn't work very well on distillates. During the war years my Dad burned kerosene in the Farmall M and he said the tractor would haul like mad but , you had to have it set up correctly. A lot of land got plowed at our place on kerosene, but you could burn stove oil and a mixture of diesel and kerosene or diesel and gasoline and even bunker fuel...basically any flammable distillate would work. Your H has likely had the heat shield and shutters removed as gasoline became more readily available after 1945. Be proud of your tractor, its a war tractor and its contribution to producing food for both our nations helped the Allied Forces to win the war..god bless the War tractors, those kerosene burning veterans!!
