I had the same problem with the trailer. I even went through the trouble of switching the tires to the narrower configuration, but it still wouldn't fit. I was sure that that would have done it, but next time I'll have to get a trailer like you described. We ended up having to drive it on forward and chock the rear tires so that the rims would fit through. Fortunately, it rode well with the chains; not to mention it was essentially "pinned" between the fenders anyway!
