I was unable to get my Farmall A to start after its winter nap. I cranked it over a few times to get the oil pumped about, but after a short time the starter would click but not turn the engine. I put the charger back on (6V), checked all connections, etc but still no luck - so I decided the starter must be at fault (it had been getting weak the last few years). After a mighty struggle to get the belly mower support mechanism moved back far enough to extract the starter, I was shocked to find the pumpkin was full of mouse nest and day old minced mice in a sauce of grease and other unspeakable foulness! What a mess. The starter was all gummed up with, um, corruption. I had to stop and get a beer. Must have been a colony of 'em in there. I'll go ahead and have the starter reworked and clean out the pumpkin as well as I can (shudder!). I hope to get the A back running again - cutting the field with the little riding mower is no fun. I've been a lurker for some time - have received much good info here. Don't recall anyone having this problem!
