I agree with JDM and Red - sounds like you're only getting power to the ignition coil when the starter switch is closed. Could be caused by a wiring problem or a bad ground in the battery circuit. Suggest connecting a voltmeter or a test lamp between the ignition switch side of the coil and a good ground. Then turn on the ignition switch. The voltmeter should indicate battery voltage (or the test lamp should light) if the wiring and ground are OK. If no voltage is indicated, first clean up the connections at both ends of the battery ground cable, then run the test again. If the voltmeter/test light still do not indicate voltage at the coil with the switch "on", your wiring is messed up. However if you find the coil IS getting voltage OK, the problem is likely fuel-shortage (carburetor) related. Post back what you find...Bob M
