Out of time can make the tractor run hot. To set the timing: Take the hand hole off the clutch housing and locate the Top dead center mark. Get the engine to TDC of compression stroke on No. 1 cylinder. Take the distributor cap off and the rotor off. Then loosen the distributor, turn on the ignition and rotate the distributor until you see a spark at the points. Tighten the distributor and then recheck by rotating the engine to see that the spark occurs at TDC. Turn off the ignition and put things back together. Hardest part is locating the TDC mark on the flywheel. It is not very evident. YOu may want to check to see if you get the spark at TDC by rotating the engine first before you loosen the distributor.
