You obviously have some lever in the wrong position or the hydraulic hoses connectly incorrectly and you are hearing the bypass valve(s) squealing. The noise you are hearing is abnormal. If the tractor was a John Deere as the other post suggested it probably would not have run long enough to be serviceable at the age of this tractor and yes, dead tractor make no noise!
