I oredered all the parts for a quick rebuild of the old cub in the barn. They stopped using it years ago due to a crack that developed in the block(stress crack) or so I thought. I seem to alsop remember a story of water in the oil and they thought it was they same crack. no one remebered too much. I pulled it apart and it all looked sound. I ordered new rings, bearings, sediment bowl, all ignition parts, carb rebuild ....the works. I borrowed a bb hone last night and when I cleaned up the cylinders I found a vertical crack down the #1 cylinder that is about 1 1/2 inches long. It is towards the bottom of the cylinder, out of compression area but it is on the water jacket side between #1 & #2 cylinders. THATS WHERE THE WATER CAME FROM! So now what !!!! Can these things be bored aout to have a relacement sleeve installed, or is a new block in order? how much should that be. how bought a complete new motor? Thanks for any and all advice. I grew up on this thing so I don't want to abandon it.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
