HI Ed,I just finished doing brakes on an H. One was siezed and we had a heck of a time getting it off. If you are lucky the brass bushings in the brake band lever will be okay and will slide out with the band. They are expensive little brutes $11.00 canadian at my I-H dealer. The others have suggested replacing oil seals behind the drums and I think that is a must. I found a tiny bit of rust on the brake drum flange and I think this is what chewed the old style leather seal out. My dealer told me to install the new style seal flush to the tractor. The new seal is much narrower than the old seal but it runs on a different spot on the drum flange so any wear from the old seal won't matter. You will have a heck of a time getting the old seals out...chisel and pick , screw driver, hammer and pliers but piece by piece they will come out, be carefull you don't damage the spline. The new seals go in easily. My I-h dealer photocopied a n assembly picture and a parts list and that made it easy to order what I needed. I broke a siezed brake compression spring even after i heated it red hot, but my friendly tractor wrecker had one and I took it off the H for $5 so it wasn't too bad. The drums should come off easily after removing the retaining bolt. I just tapped on the back side of them and wiggled them by hand and they slid off the spline. If nothing is seized the biggest job will be getting your old seals out. Good luck .Give me a shout if you run into any problems..Mike in Exeter Ontario

Today's Featured Article - An Old-Time Tractor Demonstration - by Kim Pratt. Sam was born in rural Kansas in 1926. His dad was a hard-working farmer and the children worked hard everyday to help ends meet. In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership, ... [Read Article]
