You say the ..cylinders are nice and smooth to the touch.. well the mechanic in me can see the cylinder walls are far from being in ideal condition, particularly the one in the bottom of the 1st picture and you also do not show us the one at the top that you still have the ..embalming fluid.. in. But that is more of a curse to me than to someone like you that can just go ahead and proceed in ..get by.. mode. Probably the place that the worst stuck piston was setting at still has enough rust build up to reduce the cylinder bore diameter. That engine is going to burn some oil there is probably no way around that unless you replace the sleeves. But from what I have seen on some of the videos you have posted that does not really bother you. Do you by chance have a ball hone? If so I would run it a bit in the worst looking cylinders and see if that helps.
