I've had the same thing happen to me, had it stuck in rev. and 2nd at same time. by removing the shifter cover plate you can align the 3 slides back into neutral by using a pry or screwdriver. check the end of the shift lever before reassembly to see if it is severly worn causing it to actually move into neutral before disengaging for the gear it was in. The end of the shift lever should fill most of the neutral valley. If it doesn't you can weld the shifter to build it up and file it back down to the right size. worked for me about 3 years ago and haven't had a problem with it since. good luck.
