I see all of these messages and I wanted to make sure you were not missing the simple thing. Is your coil a 12V coil. If it is, you should not be using a ballast resister. A 12V coil needs 12V. If you have a 6V Coil and a ballast resister, you should be OK except you may need a jumper lead from the start terminal of the solenoid to the downstream side of the resister. This lead also will have to have a diode installed to prevent an electrical backfeed. This should solve the problem
