Check to see if your battery cables, or the cable from the starter switch to the starter need replacing. Bad or loose connections to these components or ground, or cables that have been replaced with wire that's too small will do this. Also a possibility that the starter switch isn't making good contact. A far-out possibility would be that someone has tinkered with the engine to raise compression, but that's a very long shot.
