Farmall 400 sticky shifting

My 400 has trouble at times shifting in (sometimes) and out (frequently) of both first and reverse gears (they are in line). Sometimes, moving the tractor a little helps, but more often than not, it takes a very hard yank to get it out of gear. The other gears are OK. What is causing this, and how can I fix it?
