Had a similar instance on my 49 C last summer. Worst part was it first started when I was at the local plowing bee and there was about 100 spectators watching me. I did all the fuel system things. All carb pasages, fuel filter screen, etc. Still same problem. Thought I may have had valves set too tight. Relashed, smae thing. Then it hit me. When I had tried to time the old girl with a timing light, I couldn't get it to flash. I suspected the coil may have been a little weak, but it was the origional type and wanted it to look origional. I have not found a origional type replacement yet. Needless to say a new coil fixed my problems for good. I wouldn't have thought pulling the choke would have helped, but it did. Guess overfueling it helped it to fire easier. You have a mag though. May have to have someone give it your mag tuneup...
