I have an MD. Never started a WD9, but I assume similar to the MD. First, you put the starting change over lever (That's the lever that switches the engine from gas to diesel) in the gasoline position. Four things occur by moving this lever When in the gas position, valves in the head are opened to a chamber in each cylinder that contains the spark plugs reducing the compression for gasoline operation. A switch is opened to activate the ignition. In diesel operation, the magneto is grounded so no spark. The float in the carburator is release to allow gas to flow to the carb. In diesel position, the float is locked up to cut off the gasoline flow. And finally, butterflys in the manifold are switched to let air flow through the carb. Make sure you have the gas turned on and that the diesel speed control lever is in the shut off position. Then give it some choke and hit the starter. Or if need be, you can pull it with another tractor. Once it's going on gas, fiddle with the choke to keep it running. After 2 or 3 minutes on gas, it should be warm enough to run on diesel. At that point, pull the change over lever to the diesel position and immediately (or at the same time) advance the diesel speed control to at least half throttle. If it all works, you should get a puff of smoke, a loud roar and you'll be running on diesel. When you shut down, it's best to switch back to gas and shut the gas off to the carb and let it run the gas out to kill it. To do that push the diesel speed control to shut off position and at the same time switch the change over lever to gasoline position. After she dies, be sure to move the change over lever back to diesel. THIS IS CRITICAL. THe decompression valves need to be in the diesel position on their seats to cool. Also always idle down for several minutes before shutdown. Shutting down hot is a primary cause of cracked heads I am told. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
