There are casting dates on most of the castings. They look like: 3*16*J. With what appears to be a screw head in the place of an asterisk. J would be 1940, K;1941 and so on. W & U was used in 1951, and they never used a V. They started the alphabet over in 1955 with A. On the M's, the engine ser.# right above #1 spark plug was the same as the tractor ser. #. Be careful here though, because if you have many different casting years, it's a good chance the engine was switched......
