Magnet's a nice idea, but you're gonna find that it wants to stick to EVERYTHING between the top of the deck and the object you're fishing for. Now don't take any chances on dropping anything else in there, but you probably should try to lower a slender flashight (suitably tied off with something stronger than kite string) down the hole and try to SEE what you're fishing for, even if you're looking through the hole where the PTO assembly came out. Don't be too hard on yourself for the mistake; some of us have done things a lot worse than this caper!
