Speaking of brakes...

The sort of thing that the manual doesn't cover:
I had to replace the wornout brake bands on my H. I got new bands from the dealer (they would have been about $10 cheaper apiece from an on-line, but I like to use several suppliers). One of the bands appeared to be a little out of shape - not quite round. When I fit it down into the cover and attached the pivot there was a space about a quarter inch between the band and the cover at the side opposite the pivot, the side towards the rear of the tractor. I didn't think much of it, I figured the drum would force it into the right shape. Well, yeah, it would, but no matter how much I loosened it the brakes still dragged. Had to take it all back apart and bend the band into what appeared to be roundness. Put it back on and it adjusts up just fine.
Learn something everytime I mess with that fine old machine.
