Sam - A "snap" shift is simply a gear shift done without using the clutch. In the situation above, key is to have the motor running as slowly as possible, then quickly moving (snapping) the gear lever into low. If you do it right you'll catch the gear and the tractor will now be moving forward at it's lowest possible speed. Move the lever too slow and all you'll get is a bunch of grinding and the lever won't go into gear. Snap upshifts work the same way - idle the motor and snap the lever up thru each gear in succession. Works best on hard, level ground or a slight downgrade.
