Could also be a hole in the piston or a rounded off cam lobe. Check for cam lobe by removing valve cover and watching the cam action for all valves. Number 4 will have almost no stroke if it is badly warn. BE sure to take note of the valve lash. To check for piston leak, take an old plug, break out the glass center and weld in an air fitting. Pressurize #4 with air (about 5 psi). Listen for air flowing from crankcase, intake and exhaust. Be sure #4 is on the compression stroke before pressurizing. Should be able to hear air escaping into the exhaust (less likely intake) if there really is a burnt valve.
