Red, milling the head a bunch may not be the easiest way to go. The last time my old '43H was overhauled (distillate head) we went on the recommendation of the IH mechanics and put high altitude pistons in it. The head didn't need milling to straighten it, and the step-head pistons were very little more cost than the standard ones. This combination raised the compression ratio to almost exactly what the standard ratio was for the gasoline head. If you check with Bermuda Ken, I'll bet he's got some information that will give you the compression ratios for different piston/head combinations.
