Blowing water out overflow tube

I have a 1941 cub. It keeps blowing water out the overflow tube on the radaitor. I put on a new radiator cap, 7lb., and it still blows water out. It doesn't appear to be running hot but there is no temperature guage. Did they make a temp gauge? And what could be causing this. I loose about 1/2 gallon of water every time I mow.
