You want the blade to be wider that your tractor wheels. When pushing snow or dirt backwards, you don't want to be driving over your berm. I personally don't like the backblade. Unless you have down pressure on 3 pt., and grading loose gravel..they are worthless. I like the box scraper for dirt. I had back blade and sold it, and gave away another one with a tractor. It was 8ft. and he cut it off, but he was running a 5 ft wide tractor. I push snow with a seven ft front blade. If the blade is too wide for tractor, it can push the tractor side ways if at an angle, so it all boils down to the width of the tractor you are running it on....
