I have a 1940 Farmall 'M' that just recently started 'govenor hunting'. In fourth gear at about half throttle the engine will surge. When hooked up to a dyno or in a pull it does what it was designed to do without a miss. In the service manuals and dealer parts book it shows a 'thrust washer' in front of the govenor sleeve. All H,M,300, 400 and supers have the same govenor and show the washer. Mine does not have the washer. Mine ran great till I rebuilt the card and then it started hunting. On the front of the throttle shaft housing where it bolts to the top of the govenor housing there are two screws that hold it in place. They are slotted! Someone told me you could make it stop 'hunting' by moving this up or down. I KNOW THE LINKAGE is adjusted as per specs. Does anyone have an idea why mine does not have the washer and/or what will fix it? Thanks for your help, Tom/Idaho
