Norman, don't be too embarrassed. Something similar has happened to almost everybody that fools with these things. I had to disassemble my "A" carb and rebuild twice before I got all the parts in right. These days I'm so paranoid about small parts getting lost, I use a set of small envelopes along with one of those "exploded parts" diagrams from the manual. As I remove each part, I put it in a separate envelope and mark the envelope with both the diagram number and the part name. I stack the envelopes in sequence of removal so that I reassemble in the exact reverse order. I know this sounds anal but when you're as mechanically challenged as I am you have to do whatever it takes to make sure you don't get off track.
