I would pass on this one. The 706 wasn't one of IH's best tractors and with out a 3 point hitch $3,000 is a lot of money. Years ago I knew of a couple of farmers that were willing to give away a 706 with out a motor with a 3 point hitch. They have since been scraped. With a 3point hitch and good engine the tractor might be worth $3,000, slightly more for good rubber and weights - but I would pass baised on the models history. Down to the numbers. I think the rebuild will cost you between $1,000 and $3,000 depending on what you find at teardown. This puts your cost at $3,800 to $5,800. To have it done professionally will cost you $5,000 - putting the cost of this tractor at $7,800. Let's not forget the tires. I'm not sure want size you have but new rubber will cost you a couple of grand more. This is definately a good deal for the seller.
