The mark on the flywheel is VERY SMALL and hard to find. Clean the flywheel and put some new batteries in you flashlight. It will help if you remove all the plugs and put you finger on the #1 hole and while slowly rotating the engine feel compression building up and you will know its on the compression stroke. Look into the plug hole and slowly continue to rotate the engine until you see the piston at the top. Now when you go look for the mark you will probably see it very near where its suppose to be. Been there, done that, feel you pain.
