I have a 1950 Farmall Super A, chassis number 286844 and the chassis plate also says "1540" (is that the maximum engine rpm?). Serial number on the engine block is FAA M 287275 D. Part number on block is 251069 R1. Tractor has 4 hole hood, radiator shutters, no water pump, and probably had a maniford baffle for running on distillate/kerosene fuel. Engine block casting and such numbers on rest of tractor are April 1950. The "FAA" is perfectly aligned but the "M" is just a little off center and offset an extra space to the right of the last "A" in the "FAA." My question is why doesn't the engine number have a suffix letter for distillate or kerosene, and what does the "M" in "FAAM" mean? My understanding is that the "D" suffix means 5000 feet high altitude pistons, is that right? Lastly, what is the compression ratio with such pistons? Thanks for any information. Kurt

I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t
