The manifold gasket on an M is pretty easy to replace. Remove the carburetor and the angling govenor rod at the governor and pivot point on top of the block. Unbolt the manifold. Scrape off the two gaskets on the block and manifold and replace with new ones. Inspect your manifold for cracks or holes while you have it off. These gaskets do go bad and you could easily be drawing in air which would reduce your power.
