This is how I did it a couple weeks ago. First, pull the spark plug from the #1 cylinder (front). Second, turn engine over using fan blade to get piston at top dead center. Turn fan blade in correct direction. As you or someone turns the engine you should feel some compression building in the cylinder. If you do you are on the compression stroke. If you don't feel compression you will have to turn the engine over again until you do feel compression. When you start to feel compression, stick a long screwdriver into the spark plug hole. The top of the screwdriver will touch the piston. Slowly rotate the engine until it's clear you have top dead center. Now you want the rotor to point exactly at the dist cap #1. To get it to point very close, you will have to remove a small cover under the rotor and index the shaft a couple gear teeth to get the rotor to point correctly. This will take a couple tries. The engine will fire right up when you are done. If the engine runs hotter than normal, advance the timing slightly. Good Luck
