Lowell since you have the valve cover off anyway, I simply start with cylinder #1 and watch the exhaust valve open and close (closest to the radiator), then the intake open and close. Then I slowly turn the pulley until the first mark lines up with the timing mark which should give you TDC on the compression stroke. I set them .018 cold. On the second cylinder, watch valve #4 open and close followed by #3 opening and closing then turn the pulley until the marks line up. Valve arrangement from the radiatior is (exhaust, intake) (intake, exhaust) (exhaust, intake) (intake, exhaust).
