I found a similar hole in the manifold on the Continental N-62 engine in the Earthmaster I'm still 'bout thru restoring. I wondered if it was so rain-water could escape, but I didn't want to put water down the pipe to see. I ran it a little with the hole open, but didn't like the little bit of smoke-staining on the manifold and carb., so I turned a small tapered aluminum plug on the lathe, pecked it into the hole slightly below surface of the castiron and it doesn't show.
