Brian - Water accumulating the transmission does not necessarily have to come in thru the top. Around here (upstate NY), hot summer days and cool, humid nights cause a transmission to "breath" in moist air every evening as it cools down. Over the course of a summer a quart or more of condensation might show up in the tranny the size of an M - even one that's always kept under cover. Solutions: 1 - Keep the tranny properly filled with gear lube. (A full transmission contains less air space, hence less wet air gets sucked in each evening). 2 - Drain a couple quarts (or until water stops showing) out the bottom drain opening before the onset of freezing weather in the fall. Then top off with fresh gear lube.
