we have an old mc cormick combine with the gas tank two or three feet below the carb. former owner replaced the mechanical pump on the engine with an electric 6 volt unit. it just hangs there on the side of engine. it is wired from the hot side of the ignition coil and grounded to the frame. when to turn on the start switch you can hear the pump come up to pressure then get quiet. it works fine.
