Don't let anyone talk you out of trying to bale hay with your C. It will do it, although it won't be fast. Look for an IH model 45 or 46, JD 14T or 24T, or New Holland 66, or equivalent. Don't mess around with a motor on the baler either. That's not necessary unless you have extreme hills. We baled several thousand bales every year with an H Farmall and 14T JD baler and never had any trouble, and did it in third gear. You could run in second with your C unless you have really rough going. If you plan to bale commercially this advice is off, since I am assuming you only want to bale a few hundred bales. But go for it. You won't be sorry. Too many of the young guys these days assume the old tractors with 18-20 horsepower could only do what 18-20 horsepower in today's tractors could do. It ain't so. I don't know the explanation but in terms of what a tractor could really pull, I believe a 20 horsepower tractor of the 50's would be the equivalent of a 30-35 horsepower tractor today. One more thing; I know at least a few people who actually baled with a Super A and did it with a pto baler. The physical size of that tractor is smaller than your C but the engine is the same.

The draft forces are
