It's hard to say if there is anything wrong without actually hearing how much noise you have. I know my B and every other A,B, BN, I have ever run sings a loud familiar tune in 4th gear so what you have may be normal. These straight-cut gears tend to be loud, - loud and strong. I found that a can or two of STP in with the transmission oil seems to help some with the sound level, but they are never what I call quiet.
