If you have the E4A mag you may want to see if the Impulse is tripping off too soon. If the engine isn't at a certain speed it may not have enough "spin" on the armature to make the spark without the impulse still on.Also did you rebuild your carb lately? The kits have the wrong setting measurement for the float.Set the float at the cut groove inside the fuel bowl wall.My 10-20 when it was set at the kit specs would slightly flood the engine.The float was just slightly too high.It would start and then die.It was sucking up all the liquid fuel in the bottom of the carb and manifold. It would take about a hundred pulls(seemed like anyway!) to get going again and then it would blow black smoke and die again.I thought my arm was going to fall off! I set the float to the groove in the fuel bowl and it has been purring like "a cream fed cat in front of a fireplace" ever since.
