Carl, Seal technology has come a long way since the days of leather and felt. Though the new spring and rubber seals look very inferior to the hefty mass of the older seals, they will work as well as the old ones did. It is important though to try your best to place the seals lip in an area other than where the old seal may have worn a depression on the associated shaft or even consider using speedy sleeves in certain applications.//FB
