Hard start on H

My 47 H on 6 volts cranks nicely with new 2/0
cables and what seems like a decent battery but
doesen't start till after a few trys and usally
when you are pulling your thumb off the starter
button. I re gapped it to .13 on # 1 TDC, and
when it starts after a bit it purrs and idles
great. This H has a mag that appears original and
I touched up the caps contacts with sand paper. In
my working on it today I put in the cap reversed
and got it to start 180 degrees out of timing it
ran ok on two cylinders with no power. My thought
is that my original on - off switch is bad. I
snap it on -off a couple time and it seemed to
help a bit in the past. This could be luck though.
I get spark at the plugs though it seems weak,
I am used to 12 volt systems though. Any thoughts
on how a H should start ? I had a 65 Mustang for a
long time that I had starting before the key was
on the contact for
