Farmall Grille Emblem Colours?

I have looked through the archives and all the pictures I can find in the photos section.
I am wondering what the 'correct' colours are for the tin Farmall Grille Emblem on the front of an early H.
When I stripped the one off my sisters tractor, I found the rear to have remains of white paint all over. The front seems to be white also with the field around the letters painted black.
The one I saw at CT last week had only metal showing with the black field.
Which is 'correct'???
