I have used a number of oils and lubes and the best I have found is WD-40. It keeps the stones free of grit, cleaning as you hone and leaves the bore completely visible so you can watch the cross hatch. Don't forget to clean the honing grit. Best is hot soapy water and a good wash cloth. I have seen many sets of bearings ruined by honing grit. Wash thoroughly, dry and oil. This will give you an engine you could eat out of. Doc
