Rick, it sounds to me like you have a problem with your carburetor float. The float is either too heavy-filled with liquid, or is sticking and not pushing up on the needle valve, shutting off the gas into the carburetor after the reservoir is full. Make sure the float isn't stiff at it's pivot point. If the float is OK, then check the needle valve and the seat. Check for debris, make sure they are clean, and check their condition. Look for pitting or gouges on both the valve and the seat as it's a good bet one of them isn't sealing properly.
